Cardiologist & Medical Director

Dr. Marianela Areces is a highly accomplished cardiologist and Medical Director at the Pritikin Longevity Center. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease and serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at Washington University. Dr. Areces completed her fellowships in Cardiology and Advanced Echocardiography at Washington University and her residency at the University of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. She has received recognition for her leadership and contributions to cardiovascular research, including studies on diabetic cardiomyopathy and the impact of weight loss on heart function.

Dr. Areces has a deep passion for cardiovascular prevention and education. She believes in the power of lifestyle changes to prevent and even reverse heart disease, making a profound difference in patients' lives. At Pritikin, she is able to dedicate time to educating her patients on how and why these changes matter, which is key to the success of the Pritikin Program. Her lectures, including "What's Salt Got to Do with It?," focus on simplifying complex cardiovascular health topics, helping patients understand the true impact of their lifestyle choices on heart health.
